Christopher Shannon: LFW Menswear Show Review
Wednesday 24th February 2010
Christopher Shannon created a collection reminiscent of his early catwalk collections. Colour palettes were tight as always and predominantly dark. At first glance you could have been watching a show for trendy walking gear and on-piste fashion.
The collection was undoubtedly grey, safe colours were prominent, however injections of unexpected neon here and there kept it young and unlike anything else. Last seasons effective colour blocking continued but in a more subtle way and for those who like things less subtle there were a couple of exciting, over-bearing prints chucked into the mix.
Shannon never fails to create a collection that epitomises the London lifestyle, fulfilling the needs of the capitals Mr Average. A cocktail of smart-casual wear with a clever twist lends itself to clothes that just right for both a brisk morning run for the tube, and a chic after work pick-me-up. Perhaps the most eye-catching export from Shannon’s show was the footwear, meeting somewhere in the middle Shannon creates comfortable, ‘hi-top’ inspired footwear, banishing the Londoners dreadful habit for trainers and suits. Loose fitting layering was prevalent, merged with Shannon’s sharp and notorious use of texture.
Having seen New York fashion week slated for it’s predominantly white model casting, hats off to Shannon for using as always a variety of models. The edgy Shoreditch haircuts kept the models up to date and ‘Oh so very London’.
